Christmas Memory #4

I'm sorry. I just didn't have time this week to post day 2 & 3 but I'm back on with #4!

One of my favorite memories of Christmas is of my Papa.  Papa was my mother's father, and he passed away in July of 2003.  You see, right between Thanksgiving and Christmas each year, the Wizard of Oz is usually on television.  This would be a very big event in our household.  This meant getting all the christmas decorations up and ready so that we could all sit down to watch the movie.  It also meant that Mama and Papa were coming over to watch it with us.

I distinctly remember where the television was in the house I grew up in on Sunflower Avenue. That the family room was a minty green color, and that Papa liked the rocking chair.  We always got to shop for treats, and my favorite were the nuts that you had to use the nutcracker to break open.  That was a wonderful memory that I was priveleged to have each year.  This year, Jon and I started a new tradition. When it came on the television, we didn't even know it! But I heard the music, and we snuggled up on the couch to watch.  It's memories like these that make me miss my Papa.

Christmas Memory #1

I have lots of memories that revolve around Christmas, so this is going to be fun.

One memory I have of Christmas is foil snowflakes. Now, you may or may not know what I'm talking about. This is where you take the magic paper (now known to me as wrapping paper) that looks like foil in red, green, silver, gold, green, blue etc. You fold them over a million times and then make cuts into the paper to make snowflakes. We used to have a lot of these decorating the walls and glass doors at the house I grew up in on Sunflower Avenue. They were gorgeous and looked like you spent a lot of time making them! I just may have to try my hand at them again this year....
